Announce The Release Of Their Debut Album St. Ill Regal
& Accompanying East-Coast Tour

Bubblin’ Up out of the artisan hotbed that is Brisbane’s West End – introducing the grunty Rudeboy Soul and Croon Punk of Laneous And The Family Yah (L&TFY). What started as a community whisper has broken out into a fire. From the Big Day Out to the screens of NME TV and recent attention of Triple J, the dirty, hip-hop driven soul grooves of L&TFY have officially arrived.

Spotlight artists on Triple J Unearthed in June 09 and named amongst Hip Hop’s Hottest in J Mag’s City by City ‘Oz Hip Hop Special’, with the launch of their debut LP St Ill Regal and August East-Coast tour L&TFY are now set to cement a swiftly burgeoning reputation. And what a reputation – let’s face it, press releases are partial to hyperbole but it would be no overstatement to say that Laneous And The Family Yah have recently become one of the most talked about bands in Brisbane. This has been due largely to their live show, a 10 piece spectacle that witnesses have referred to as – quite bluntly – unparalleled.

Who is Laneous?

The ‘Lovable Tramp with the clamped, cramped fist in the air’, Laneous is the conceptual poet for the Backbeat Generation. Devoting his life to music since dropping out of high school at the age of 15, Laneous’s musical vision has been unfaltering. Born into the Bohemian south-Brisbane community that he’s now so heavily a part of, Laneous has spearheaded a new Brisbane-born movement of edgy groove, hip hop bounce and soul glaze.

Joining forces with The Family Yah – consisting of General Beats (Drums), Antilla (Guitar), Positive Serpent (Bass) and Peet G (MPC/Keys) – in 2007, Laneous has set about realising his musical vision, creating a formidable live experience that has seen them grace the stages of Big Day Out, Woodford Folk Festival, Island Vibe, Kuranda Roots Festival, Green Fest, and the West End Carnivale but to name a few. Now they arrive with their most outstanding musical excursion to date – their debut album.

St. Ill Regal

Recorded at Psi Fi Studios with Producer Peet G, St. Ill Regal is the realisation of Laneous’s supreme musical vision. With the help of The Family Yah, the all singing, all dancing Bird Fire Choir, not to mention guest MC’s, a Nepalese Tabla Master and an 8-piece string section, the album stretches a massive 17-tracks that cover the full spectrum of Soul and Hip Hop.

From Hip Hop Opener ‘BubbleGum’ all the way to Soul Joint ‘Searing Life’, lyrically Laneous flowers with the quirk of MF Doom and the perk of TV on The Radio. Musically, The Family Yah astounds, making unconventional sounds with conventional instruments – think garage band meets MPC.

Featuring a zany filmclip produced by Squareyed Films (Silverchair, The Sleepy Jackson, Living End, Youth Group), first single ‘BubbleGum’ is a testament to Laneous’s off the chart pop and bounce. Filmed on location at the Richmond Housing Commission Flats in Inner Melbourne and featuring Melbourne shuffle kids and breakers, the video has already garnered strong international attention with The NME featuring it on their dedicated TV channel in the UK. See the clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijE5xkJyOQw&. ‘BubbleGum’ was also a recently named a finalist in the 2009 Qsong Awards ‘Hip Hop’ Category.

A complete artistic package, accompanying the remarkable musical vision found on St. Ill Regal is the inclusion of exclusive artwork by New York/Brisbane based artist Anthony Lister, who has generously donated his art to the albums’ cover. Rounding out the package is a mini-exhibition of five Brisbane based visual artists – including works from Laneous himself. Said art is included on individual cards contained within each copy of the record.

Delivered via Brisbane’s new home of Underground Soul, Rock and Hip Hop Bird Fire Records, St. Ill Regal will be released nationally in August 2009.

To coincide with the release of their debut St. Ill Regal, Laneous and the Family Yah are heading out on a not to be missed 8-show East-Coast Tour. “Superstar frontman, Laneous has united a band comprised of some of the funkiest that River City has to offer… The band gives off a raw energy together with very tight grooves and infectious beats. Besides a set of golden vocal chords, Laneous posseses rad rhymes and keen style.”
Leopard Lady, Virgin Music

“What an awesome song. Digging that soulful, Stevie Wonder-esque groove, and it's embellished so well, full of melody and sunshine. Yes, sunshine! This song brightens my day.”
Dom Alessio, Triple J Home & Hosed Blog, on ‘Searing Life’

“Mr Laneous is already on to a good thing. His music is ingenious and its complexities are not lost on the audience. Laneous keeps us on our feet, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Fasterlouder.com

“This lot hale from good ol’ brisvegas and I tell ya, if they don’t take the roman empire by storm with their debut album then I’ll eat my terry towelling hat.”
Dom Fagan, AIR
